Holiday Recipe: Christmas Tree Bark

Let’s set the scene: you are crushing it this holiday! You made your shopping list ahead of time, pre-ordered everything you need for dinner, and decorated your house. You feel as productive as one of Santa’s Elves! Now, you’re ready to put your feet up, drink some hot chocolate by your fireplace and binge watch the Hallmark Channel.


But suddenly you remember that your work holiday party is in t-minus two hours and you were in charge of bringing dessert. Uh-Oh. But don't fret! There's one classic recipe that's sure to impress and it doesn't take much time to make.


Some may refer to the scrumptious dessert as Christmas Toffee or even Christmas Crack (referring to its easiness to break), but Christmas Tree Bark
is a salty, crunchy, chocolate cookie that’ll have your guests begging for more. It’s easy to make, portable and taste amazing! If you need to bring a last-minute dish and still want to impress your friends like your Martha Stewart, Christmas Tree Bark is the recipe you need to make this holiday.


Christmas Tree Bark Recipe via i heart naptime

Ingredients:

1 Box Saltine Crackers

2 Sticks of Butter

1 Cup Light Brown Sugar

2 Cups Chocolate Chips

½ Cups of Toppings (M&Ms, Sprinkles, Carmel, etc.)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Grab a cookie sheet and line it with aluminum foil. Spray the liberally with cooking spray. And line your cookie sheet with Saltine Crackers.

  2. In a medium pan, over low heat, place 2 cups of butter and 1 cup of brown sugar to a rolling boil, stirring frequently as to not burn the mixture. You’ll know it’s done when the color of the mixture turns a nice caramel color.  

  3. Once mixture is ready, pour of cookie sheet lined with Saltine Crackers evenly. You can use a Icing Spatula or Knife to help spread it evenly. Make sure to do it quickly, before the toffee hardens.

  4. Place pan in the oven for roughly 7-10 minutes (make sure to time it to not burn mixture). Remove from oven when ready and allow to cool slightly (2-3min).

  5. When the mixture is cooling melt 2 cups of chocolate in the microwave on 25 second increments, mixing with form to smooth out lumps. When fully melted, pour and spread evenly over cookie pan with Saltine Cracker mixture. Sprinkle with your toppings of choice and quickly place in your freezer for 20 minute until cookies harden. After 20 minute break cookies up and serve!
