Tips for Getting Out of a Winter Rut

Posted: February 13, 2019 by Rebecca Nutt

Winter can be a rough few months for a lot of us. It gets darker earlier, the weather isn’t ideal and not to mention everyone is getting sick. So it’s obvious why some of us can be feeling a little down in the dumps. But there are always ways to make yourself feel a little better until the warmer weather comes back around. Here are just a few ways to help brighten your winter:

Make Your Own Sun

The sun seems to shine a little less during the bleak winter months. And we all know how important the sunshine is both to our mental and physical health! Now you can “make” your own sunshine with an Artificial Sun Lamp! Just like this one from Amazon, they’re designed to simulate sunlight to help you wake up to brightness just like you would during the spring.

Join a Gym

Now that the weather doesn’t cooperate with outdoor activities, it might be time to sign up for a gym membership. Daily exercise is important for our health, and joining a gym can help you keep up with the daily activities you do when it’s warm out. Even getting in a quick walk on the treadmill can help tremendously.* Not only can exercise potentially help your overall mood, but it can also help with energy levels and sleeping better at night!

*Please consult with your doctor or healthcare professional before taking on new activities.

AND Get Outside!

Yes, even though the weather is cold, it’s important to get some outdoor time. Even just taking a quick, brisk walk outside can improve your focus and mood. We all need fresh air year-round!

Plan a Vacation

Do you absolutely loathe the cold? Well, then it’s time to plan a vacation. And if you don’t have much time off, plan a mini-vacation. Don’t have the money? Then a staycation is for you! Just give yourself some time off to make time for you and your needs. Some much-needed rest and relaxation can do a lot for anyone.

See Your Healthcare Professional

If you’re really struggling during the winter, it’s best to go see your doctor or trusted healthcare professional for help. They can help suggest the best options for you and your personal health.

Hang in there! Spring is right around the corner!
